Clinton church to hold fish fries

Clinton Church of God, 640 Buchanan Road, will hold its annual fish fries from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and March 1 and 15. The dinner will include a delicious fish sandwich and a choice of two sides. The sides are coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, cabbage and noodles and green beans. Tickets are $8 each. Extra sides will be available for $1. Buy an extra fish sandwich for $4.50. A Youth Movie Night will be held in the Indian Creek Baptist Church gym in Mill Run from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. All youths in grades 7-12 are welcome. Bring a friend and enjoy pizza, snacks and fellowship. Admission is free. For more information, call 724-455-7265.

Chestnut Ridge Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Cook Township Community Center in Stahlstown. Russell Love of Verona will speak about the Southern Pennsylvania Railroad. He has been conducting research on the railroad for 15 years and has discovered many items that reveal where the route was to be built as well as where it was worked on. The right of way of the Southern Pennsylvania Railroad was a section that ran between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh on today's Pennsylvania Turnpike. Love is a published author. His 2003 book was about the right of way of the railroad surveyed from 1881 to 1883 and constructed in 1884-85, 50 years before the turnpike was built. The Bedford Springs Hotel was built in the late 1700s, and the Southern Pennsylvania Railroad was planning a secret line from the main line to pass by the resort. Many presidents and dignitaries spent vacations and business time in the hotel. Love also holds walking and biking tours. He has traced culverts, cuts, stone quarries and much more. Come along as Love tells where we can find remnants of this historical railroad.

The Christian Family & Children's Center will hold an Ice Mine Community Youth/Family Night from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Bring your friends, family and youth group for a night of fun, roller skating, ice skating and fellowship. Admission is $5, and skate rentals are $2. The Ice Mine is at 5001 W. Crawford Ave., Connellsville.

The Kecksburg Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Valentines Dinner and Dance at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Kecksburg VFD Memorial Hall, 5128 Water Street, Mt. Pleasant. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Music with disc jockey Zany Zel will be from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets include all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner, draft, soda pop and dancing; cost is $12 per person or $20 for two. If you just want to come out and dance with beverages, the cost is $6 per person. The Mountain Laurel Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a bus trip to Wheeling Island, W.Va., from 1 to 9 p.m. Feb. 23. Cost is $27 per person, which includes the driver's tip. Each passenger will receive $25 in coins. Bus bingo is optional. The Quest coach bus pickup locations are: 1 p.m., Donegal Area Community Center; and 1:30 p.m., Econo Lodge, 110 N. Main St., New Stanton.

The Christian Family & Children's Center will take a bus to see Chris Tomlin & Kari Jobe on Feb. 23 at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. Cost and departure time will be announced soon. If interested, call 724-455-2122, ext. 100.

Little League signups for Springfield Township will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 2, on one day only, at the Mill Run fire hall.

The Saltlick Township Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Hunter's Banquet from noon to 5 p.m. March 3 in the Donegal Community Center, 113 Community Center Lane. The doors will open at 11:30 a.m. Twenty-five guns will be given away. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from a firefighter or a local business.

Critchfield Alliance Church, 471 Jim Mountain Road, would like to invite teenagers in grades 7-12 to its new youth group at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Call 724-455-9183 for more information.
