Ancestry Support directed me to the help topic, "Family Tree Maker error message or stopped working"(http://ancestry.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5029/kw...). This was not successful either.
It is very strange that even exhaustive measures to remove the software and then re-installing has not resolved the issue. As previously indicated, I expect the much more drastic solution of reformatting my laptop will be required at this point.
