New York, NY, November 5, 2012 -- Sentry Centers, Nourishing USA and The New York Department of Homeless Services are rolling up their sleeves in a partnership that will help to provide a healthy Thanksgiving for families in New York City. The week of events will start on November 17th at Sentry Centers in midtown Manhattan where low-income children and their families are being invited to learn, hands-on, how to prepare a healthy Thanksgiving dinner. ?They are then are provided with all the materials to cook a meal for their families at home courtesy of Knorr and The New York Women?s Culinary Alliance. Throughout the subsequent week, the Nourishing USA V.A.N. (Vehicle Advocating Nutrition) will be making stops in Harlem and the Bronx to deliver Turkeys and Hens to families in need this season thanks to sponsorship from Perdue and Nebraskaland. ?For this massive undertaking volunteers from Sentry Centers and The New York Women?s Culinary Alliance will also be helping out all week long. Nourishing USA is also working to reduce their carbon footprint by delivering the Thanksgiving Turkeys to the community using their vegetable oil powered vehicle.
?We are privileged to have the support of our Thanksgiving partners. Sentry Centers, The New York Department of Homeless Services and The New York Women?s Culinary Alliance play a vital part in providing nutrition for families? in-need. ?Not only is The New York Women?s Culinary Alliance and
Sentry Centers a national leader in their fields, but also they are truly committed to enriching the lives of
their employees as well as their customers and neighbors who live and work in the neighborhoods they serve,? said Gina Keatley, founder and CEO of Nourishing USA. ?We will be teaching children how to be healthy, but more importantly teaching them to be advocates in their own lives and the lives of their families.?
?The goal of making a healthy Thanksgiving available to low-income families in areas like the Bronx is huge, but with such great partners and enthusiastic volunteers for a truly worthy cause, I knew we would get everything in place.? says Joshua Rivera, Nourishing USA board member and outreach member.
