Back ?Home?

It feels like I?m coming back home.

Hong Kong was our first overseas post 10 years ago. The Canadian International School of Hong Kong was my first international school so it feels like I?m coming back home. Back to a place that is Canadian through & through. Back to a place that values our host country and appreciates Chinese culture. Back to a place that has quality teachers, administration and staff. Back to a place with students who are engaged global citizens. Back to a place with an active and supportive parent association. Back to a place that is state-of-the-art in its architecture and building. Back to Hong Kong and CDNIS in January 2012.

January has been a significant month in terms of my career opportunities:

January 1982 ? Saskatoon, Saskatchewan: B. Ed completed & my first teaching job.

January 1988 ? London, Ontario: preschool teacher and student at UWO.

January 1991 ? Edmonton, Alberta: founded private preschool that ran for 11 years.

January 1997 ? Edmonton, Alberta: co-founder of The Literacy Connection.

January 2003 ? Hong Kong: CDNIS grade 1 teacher and literacy coordinator.

January 2005? ? Shanghai American School: grade 2 teacher and leadership roles

January 2008 ? Completed Masters of Education from Plymouth State University

January 2009 ? Shanghai: became a member of the student support team.

January 2012 ? Hong Kong: vice principal of lower school at CDNIS.

So who is your new Pre-Reception to Grade 2 Vice Principal & what do I believe in?

I am someone who:

~ Loves children and their innate desire to learn.

~ Has enjoyed the field of early childhood education since 1982.

~ Shows a passion for teaching, for students, for education, for life-long learning.

~ Understands the significance of partnerships with parents and the home-school link.

~ Believes that ?reading is every child?s future.?

~ Appreciates the complexities of teaching and the complexities of learning.

~ Values balance between work and play, values balance in everyday.

~ Believes in family.

~ Models respect for self and for others.

~ Values the process of gaining respect from others.

~ Understands the importance of communication.

~ Has an open-door policy.

Following the pattern from my colleagues? bios: I am a mother, a wife, a daughter, a teacher, a learner, a mentor, a positive thinker, a patron of the arts, a student of Pilates and exercise, a communicator, a planner, a dancer, a music lover, a water skier, and a lake person. It is with great joy that I return to CDNIS to work with our lower school students, teachers, parents and administration.
